Until recently, the bacteria is often portrayed as bags of enzymes, in which proteins and DNA were distributed relatively randomly over animal and plant cells. Studies conducted over the past ten years a revolution in our understanding of bacterial cells, however, showing that they are actually very organized and contain numerous strata. Written and edited by experts in the field, this volume includes a discussion of the contribution of three-dimensional organization of the bacterial cells of different subcellular structures in bacteria, membrane bounded organelles, such as magnetosomes, and organization of cell membranes. Other chapters consider the recently identified bacterial cytoskeletal filaments, which were surprisingly similar to their eukaryotic counterparts, as well as the role of these filaments in morphogenesis and cytokinesis. Also covered by the emergency organization of bacterial genomes and the dynamic mechanisms that couple its replication and partition of cell division. In addition, the book explores a variety of different bacterial multicellular structures can strattera be formed, such as biofilms, as well as new imaging techniques that promise to reveal more about their subcellular mechanisms.
